Peer Education... a little help from your friends (Training Manual), 2004 edition

The Peer Education Training Manual contains a curriculum designed to help youth leaders, teachers, faith community leaders, counselors, social workers and sexuality educators teach a 40-hour training about healthy sexuality and life skills.
The curriculum has a balanced and comprehensive approach that presents all the facts and encourages critical thinking in the young people who are training to be peer educators. Beyond the new knowledge, such as decision making, communication and healthy relationships, the teens will learn to define and verbalize their own values and gain the ability to set their own boundaries within relationships. There is a host of lessons, activities, handouts, and worksheets that are interactive, experiential, and thought provoking. In addition to the activities and lesson plans, the manual offers sample forms, letters, and evaluation tools for measuring success.
The uniqueness of this training lies in its emphasis on active learning, student-to-student interaction, mastery of risk-reducing skills and accountability for self, relationships, and role in neighborhood and community life.
